In 1998, a young Katie Taylor started boxing with her Dad in Ireland.

She quickly became passionate about the sport, dedicating increasing amounts of time to it. Her commitment to improving took her into the world of amateur boxing, where she won consistently. Her greatest dream was to win Gold at the Olympics but women’s boxing didn’t exist as an Olympic Sport.

The Sport had been a part of the Games since 1904, but for over a Century, only men were invited to compete. Katie Taylor did go on to win Olympic Gold at the 2012 Games. It was the first year the sport had been considered for inclusion in the competition, and she won Gold by campaigning and fighting to make the sport an event. AND then beating all the other competitors.

“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.” – George Bernard Shaw

Don’t presume that you need to adjust your goals to fit the world. That you’re too old/too big/too small/not smart enough/not qualified to do something, just because you haven’t seen it done by someone like you.

There weren’t female Olympic boxers until 2012 and Katie Taylor. Elon Musk was “crazy” and now investment in Space is becoming common. The Kardashians “did nothing” and are now making more money than most countries.

Society rules are temporary, so don’t take them too seriously.
